Respect
Listen with an open mind. That is the best way to truly understand how your partner, friend or family member feels. Opening yourself and considering others opinions allows you to feel more open during discussion, it will also make for a more cherished and stronger relationship. Respect is thee most important aspect of a relationship because if you do not respect each others feelings, beliefs or rights, the relationship will be unstable and won't last very long. Some steps we can take to strengthen our relationships through respect are:
- Listen with an open mind- Listening will help you understand how your friend, family member, or partner feels. Put your own thoughts aside for the moment that they are talking to you and try to look at the situation from their point of view. Body language is the key to letting them know that you care and are listening to what they are saying.
- Compromising- There will always be arguments and disagreements in a relationship, we have all been there. Making compromises is a great way to take the "best of both worlds" to come up with a sensible solution that will suit the both of you.
- Admit when you are wrong- Admitting defeat can be very harsh as we all know, but if you want your relationship to last, this will have to be done. Everyone makes mistakes and having the courage along with putting aside your pride to tell the person you love that you were wrong will mean allot to them.
